The release of Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming film Punjab 95 has been postponed due to certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Diljit and filmmaker Honey Trehan have both expressed their refusal to support the film if significant edits are imposed. A few months ago, the Punjabi superstar announced the film, but the censor board has requested an astonishing 120 cuts before it can be released in India.
Diljit Dosanjh won’t agree to Punjab’95 cuts
In a recent Instagram Live session, Diljit Dosanjh made it clear that he will only back Punjab 95 if it is released without any modifications. Speaking in Punjabi, he stated, “I hope the film gets released in India soon. I will support only that version which is released fully without any cuts. If you release the film intact, I will attend; otherwise, with cuts, it doesn’t matter. I trust a solution will arise, allowing it to be released in Punjab.”
Honey Trehan echoed Diljit’s sentiments, sharing the live session. He asserted that he would remove his name as the director if the film was released with cuts. Honey wrote, “Chaddiyaan kallan. Pinjab’95 will not have my name as a director too if there are any cuts. I firmly oppose the unreasonable and politically motivated demands of the CBFC. And, I stand with my film and my team. I will never betray their trust. Justice will prevail, and I hope the world sees the uncut version soon. Immense respect for Jaswant Singh Khalra ji’s martyrdom.”
Both Diljit Dosanjh and Honey emphasized that the core message of Punjab 95 would be compromised if the film were released with edits.
